    in NYC?

    Uber is a ridesharing platform classified as a Transportation Network Company (TNC). By a mobile app, passengers can connect with drivers nearby.

    However, Uber auto insurance policies in New York City differ from those in the state. In New York City, Uber drivers must have TLC insurance, also called for-hire insurance, which is the type of insurance to drive a TLC plates vehicle legally. TLC insurance protects the driver, passengers, and others on the road, including motor accident coverage and health protection.

    Although Uber is similar to taxi services, it’s regulated differently under New York City laws. Several Black Car and Livery bases associated with Uber are licensed by the Taxi & Limousine Commission (TLC). This allows taxi drivers to work independently and accept pre-arranged rides online via the app.
