TWO PATHS TO BECOMING AN UBER BLACK DRIVER

The two paths to become an Uber BLACK driver are:

Use your own car and complete all the required necessary documents and regulations as stated by Uber:

Process on how to drive:

Buying your own qualified car is an expensive and challenging decision. Especially for those people who have just entered into this particular professional field.

Becoming a driver for this specified service with your own vehicle requires commitment and dedication. You need to remember and note that you’re about to embark on a new journey where owning a business deals with all the costs and responsibilities that goes with it.

Steps to become a driver on your own:

  • Own a qualifying car.
  • Acquire commercial insurance.
  • Commence with a business entity such as LLC, S-CORP, etc.
  • Attain all the required local licensing and permits.
  • To be accepted by Uber.

Though the process is time taking and highly priced, you must know that the aftermath is quite satisfactory. Your job compared to other Uber services is more consistent and adjustable.

Limitation to the number of Uber BLACK accounts:

There’s a limitation to the number of active black cars in the market so as to maintain control over the supply and demand. In comparison to the other Uber services, working for Uber BLACK service require the account acceptance by Uber first. In order to know whether there’s a vacancy or not, you’ve to contact Uber support. This will save you from all the troubles you might face if there aren’t any openings.

Vehicle transitioning:

When your vehicle becomes too old to drive, it automatically gets re-qualified for lower cost services. This aging of the vehicles is known as transitioning. If you’re able to replace your vehicle with a new one within the time frame that Uber has provided, then and only then, you’ll be able to retain your status as a black driver.

Work for a car fleet owner who has an Uber BLACK account and qualified cars:

Rent from a fleet owner:

There are two causes which may prevent you from driving for this service:

  • Uber isn’t accepting any new account.
  • You don’t have the money to purchase your own qualified car.

In such cases, you could depend upon your local livery market. It’s a qualified participant in the UberBLACK market and follows all the regulations that come under professional driving.

The vehicles that are qualified for this service are mostly owned by fleet owners whose purpose is to utilize their cars for any kind of professional driving service. They do this by renting or leasing their vehicles to local and Uber drivers.

You’re required to pay a weekly fee to the fleet owners who bear your insurance expenses. Through this process, the fleet owners will connect you to their account and then, you have the liberty to rent the car on a daily or weekly basis. However, many Uber drivers do splitting of their fares wherein both the company and the driver received 50% of the fares.

How to get hired ?

  • Explore Craigslist.org jobs section for jobs in this service.
  • Associate with the fleet owner and register.
  • Get your background and driving record check through Uber.
  • The fleet owner will accordingly add you in the account.
  • Pay your weekly fee to him.

Advantages of working under fleet owner:

  • Vehicle maintenance is covered.
  • You’re provided with gas credit cards.

WHAT IS THE BENEFIT?

The most important benefit of this service is that it increases your earning power. To be more precise, you get to earn three times more than the Uber drivers who work for services such as UberX and more.

INSURANCE

    SHOULD YOU BUY
    LEASE OR RENT
    A CAR TO DRIVE
    FOR UBER/LYFT ?

Have you ever wondered what would be the best choice for Lyft and Uber drivers when it comes to buying or renting a vehicle for driving? Which car rental company is best suited for renting a car? Though for some, the option of buying a vehicle becomes obtuse when they don’t have enough finance while for others, renting a vehicle seems more profitable because they don’t have to worry about certain issues.
But before we think about this, let us first concentrate on the elephant in the room. The basic necessity Lyft or Uber drivers have to complete in order to work for Lyft or Uber is to pass background screening. Accessing of the vehicle is an aspect you can worry about after that. This means, even if you don’t have a car yet, you need to register for Uber or Lyft first. While registration, you’ll also be able to know which vehicles are qualified in your area.
    NYC Uber taxi

    HOW LYFT AND UBER DRIVERS
    CAN GET QUALIFYING VEHICLES?

Now, as we’ve successfully figured out the elephant, let’s now move over to the four options that drivers have for obtaining a vehicle:Owning a qualified vehicle.

    1) You can make use of a vehicle that you already own (OWNING A VEHICLE):

If you compare this idea with the others, we can safely guess you would realize that this is the best solution. This is because your car payment and vehicle depreciation will always be less than the rental or lease amount. Also, you must keep in mind that given the Uber rates, owning a second car isn’t a good financial decision. Especially when the first car is qualified.

    Exception:

If you want to drive for UberBLACK or UberLUX service, you need a vehicle that has both commercial and registration insurance.

    Decreasing income:

Over the last few years, the rideshare business hasn’t been able to maintain its flourishing roots in the market. The Uber drivers are facing the problem of less earnings compared to previous years.

    Depreciation:

Depreciation is an expense that is often overlooked by most of the car owners. It’s irrecoverable in nature and is treated as a loss.

For example: You purchased a brand new Hyundai Sonata Hybrid for $26,000. Now, you drove the car for 50,000 miles over the course of two years. After two years you’ll come to the realization that even though your car looks brand new, its worth has reduced to $12,000. This means, you suffered a loss of $14,000, which is equal to $134 per week.

Now, assume that your car payment is $420 and monthly payment is $250. Which roughly calculates to around $600 per month or $160 per week. Leasing the car for rideshare purposes would add $300 per week to the cost. And now, if you add the weekly depreciation cost of $134 to your rounded figure of $160 then it comes to around $290 per week. This signifies that nearly more than half of your monthly rental fee covers the depreciation cost of the car.

Unlike owning a car where you’ve to pay the depreciation costs at the point where you want to sell the car, in case of leasing, depreciation cost is paid weekly.

    2) BUYING A CAR:

Option of buying a car is also available. However, prefer buying a car that is a used hybrid or compact that is, purchasing a used one.

Now, consider the earlier example but with a slight variation. This time, instead of owning the car, you’re buying this car — Sonata which has aged two years and have run 50,000 miles. Let’s say you bought it at $12,000 too.

Now, you’ve used the car for 2 years where it has run again 50,000 miles. If you sell this car, it will be worth of $8,400 and the depreciation would be $3,600. This is quite less compared to the deprecation cost of $14,000.

This $3,600 will be then $35 per week and therefore, purchasing the used car gives in savings.

    3) LEASING A VEHICLE:

Acquiring a qualified vehicle for driving without going over the cost problem, sounds like a great idea. Leasing a car helps you to achieve this motive with zero efforts.

Through lease, vehicle maintenance and depreciation cost are covered but paid up front, which thereby, gives the freedom to the drivers to make one price every month. The most important benefit of leasing is that once he contract is complete, you don’t have to purchase the vehicle.

The two ways of leasing a car are mentioned below:

    Standard dealership car lease:

In other words it mean a lease from a dealership or private party wherein you just have to ask for a car to lease from them. The basic problem of leasing the car from a dealership is that the consumer leases don’t allow the usage of car for commercial purposes. Therefore, it may not be fit for Uber drivers.

    Rideshare program lease:

Search on the internet for rideshare leasing companies in your city. For example: New York have a lot of rideshare leasing companies. But before doing that, always keep in mind that leasing is actually purchasing a brand new car at sticker price.

    Leasing v/s purchasing:

The difference between the two is that leasing is beneficial when you’ve to work full time. If in case you don’t then, purchasing is better. Because the leasing fee would then be always higher than the earnings.

    4) RENTING A CAR:

Partner with car rental companies to rent a car. With the help of Lyft Express Drive Program, rent a car for driving for Lyft. For peer to peer service, Uber drivers can rent a car through HyreCar.

    Uber and Lyft rental programs:

TLC companies such as Uber and Lyft have now entered into a partnership with car rental companies. In this order, drivers can now have weekly rental cars i.e. they’ve to pay a weekly fee to rent a newer model car.

To know more about the Uber and Lyft rental programs.

Advantages to this car rental programs:

    • Insurance and unlimited mileage are included.
    • It doesn’t matter if you’ve no credit or bad credit, you can easily get the approval.

Dis-advantages to this car rental programs:

    • The weekly cost is very high.
    • The availability of the rental program in most cities is very less.

How to rent a car for Uber on Craigslist?

Lyft and Uber drivers can rent a car on Craigslist. As the car is already registered on Uber, there’s only one thing that the fleet owner has to do i.e. listing the Lyft or Uber driver on the vehicle insurance policy. The basic motive of any fleet owner is to hire drivers for the vehicles they own. The process of renting a car on Craigslist is:

    • Find out your local Craigslist for Uber rental cars.
    • Get in touch with the fleet owner and review the leasing agreement that is being offered.
    • The fleet owner will then subsequently adjoin your name in the vehicle insurance policy and Uber partner account.
    • If in case your name isn’t added then, you might need to have your background screening test done.

Like other rental companies which have partnered with Uber, Craigslist also gives a new way of experiencing driving for Uber without actually owning the vehicle.

WHAT TYPES OF CARS QUALIFY FOR LYFT AND UBER DRIVERS?

The primitive thing that you need to keep in mind before you start accessing a vehicle for Lyft or Uber is the type of cars that are acceptable by both the TLC companies. In general, Uber requires vehicles to have the following:

    • FEATURES: The vehicle should have 4 doors and seat belts for 4 passengers.
    • MECHANICAL INSPECTION: The car should pass the mechanical inspection and have an excellent cosmetic shape.
    • MODEL YEAR OF THE CAR: Many cities require cars to be at least 10 years or newer.

GOOD QUALITY AUTO LOANS IF IN CASE YOU DECIDE TO BUY A CAR

      UBER ACCOUNT DISABLED?
      Reactivation Explained

What could be Uber driver’s worst nightmare? We guess that you already know the answer to this terrifying question. Now, do tell, what do you do when you log into the Uber driver app and your Uber account shows disabled? How do you respond when Uber emails you that you’ve been deactivated as a partner? What do you do when Uber fails to provide you any explanation of their doing?
      NYC Uber taxi

      HOW TO KNOW IF UBER
      ACCOUNT DISABLED OR NOT?

Despite all the features that Uber have, there’s one thing that annoys Uber drivers a lot. The constant missing emails from Uber have really acted like oil in the flaming minds of Uber drivers. Uber rarely or never emails when they disable an account of an Uber driver. Instead, when the driver logs in the Uber drive app, he faces messages like:

      • «Your Uber account needs attention».
      • «The partner account you drive under has been disabled».
      • «Your account has been placed ON-HOLD».
      • «Your profile status at partners.uber.com is rejected/on-boarding/wait-listed».

If in case your account shows these types of messages then, let us clear the dark clouds for you. These messages are the indicator of your account being deactivated. There are various reasons for the deactivation of your account such as:

      • Bureaucratic reasons such as non-update of documents.
      • Performance related reasons such as star ratings, customer complaints.

You all must have heard the phrase — With every problem, there’s comes a solution. Likewise, even though your account gets deactivated, there’re ways through which reactivation of the Uber account is possible. However, you need to work patiently by maintaining a constant contact with Uber support system.

HOW TO GET REACTIVATED IF UBER ACCOUNT DISABLED?

Reactivation of account is possible. You just have to follow the procedure of identifying the problem and correcting it. However, in order to that, you need to be determined and tolerant with Uber by emailing them in every few days. Follow this procedure when such problem occurs:

If you’ve been deactivated because of a problem in the documents:

Upload the document which is pending or the updated version of the document and you’ll be reactivated. If you want to quicken the process, you can:

      • Go to Uber Greenlight Hub
      • Get into contact with the Uber through Uber phone support.

In the above, the operator will immediately reactivate your account as soon as your documents are verified.

If you’re deactivated because of low star ratings:

Get in touch with Uber or explore help.uber.com. Check if you could find any qualified improvement course that is easily available in your area. This course which generally goes by the name «7×7 Experience» could be both online and in-person class.

This course would help Uber drivers to improve their skills making them more efficient and reliable. Specifically designed for struggling drivers, these classes usually cost less than $100.

As soon as you complete the course, upload your certificate at the website mentioned above and wait for reactivation.

If you’ve been deactivated for any other reason:

Get in contact with Uber through help.uber.com or you can also visit an in-person office and request Uber to reactivate your account. Though the chances of victory are pretty low, anything can happen. You have to be determined, as we’ve said before. Also, keep in mind that making them anxious and irritated would get you nowhere. So, it’s better to be polite and charming.

      PREVENTION OF FUTURE DEACTIVATION

Receiving a traffic violation while you’re an active Uber driver can lead to the deactivation of your Uber account. Before Uber starts with its annual background check, it’s imperative and advantageous if you somehow prevent the ticket from entering your record.

The process through which you can prevent the situation from taking place is Off The Record. It will help you stand against the tickets at affordable prices without showing up in the traffic court. Transmit the photo of your ticket and accordingly match it with a local attorney. After that, pay up the fee for the service. There’s always a strong money-back guarantee offered.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU DON’T GET REACTIVATED?

The process of reactivation is tiring and time-taking. Therefore, while the process is still in waiting, do make sure you sign up for other driving jobs such as:

      • Drive for Lyft.
      • Drive for on-demand delivery apps such as Postmates, DoorDash, Deliv, etc.

      GETTING INSURANCE AFTER GETTING REACTIVATED

After you’ve been reactivated by Uber, make sure that you acquire insurance. Insurance is very necessary in such cases because you don’t need to worry about your earnings while you’re deactivated as your insurance provides you with that coverage. Furthermore, in cases of accidents and car repairments, insurance provides you with coverage.

If the bicycle delivery shows up as an option or contact support, then it’s clear that bicycles will be qualified as a working vehicle.

        FAQs

Where can you deliver for DoorDASH on bicycles?

        • Phoenix
        • Raleigh-Durham
        • Toronto

What are the basic requirements of delivery companies?

The basic requirement of delivery companies is the positive approval in the background and driving record. Checkr is used by the on-demand delivery apps such as Postmates, DoorDASH and UberEATS to run these tests. You can be disqualified if there are:

        • Any major violations in the last 7 years such as DUI, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, etc.
        • you’ve more than 2 moving violations in the last three years.

        INSURANCE

None of the delivery companies require commercial or rideshare auto insurance. But you may find that the personal auto insurance policy excludes delivery driving. It’s best to acquire a rideshare policy if you think that your current policy won’t cover you in case you’re driving for delivery apps. It’s because of the reason that insurance companies will only ask if you’re driving for Uber or Lyft when you file a claim. Therefore, many drivers never inform about their choice of driving for delivery.

We aim to provide you a better and exclusive way of acquiring insurance in order to lead a risk-free future.

          ADDITIONAL LYFT VEHICLE REQUIREMENTS

Now here, we are going to talk about the requirements that you’re supposed to give to:

          • Lyft Line rides,
          • regular Lyft rides and
          • Lyft Plus rides.

However, you need to keep in mind that your vehicle has the capacity to fit up to six passengers.

Now, think of what will you do when you’re given the option of earning more money? If you’ll ask the secret behind to the above question, we’ll simply tell you to give high-end rides to a wealthier clientele. But, the question then arises is — HOW? FAQ REGARDING THE LYFT VEHICLE REQUIREMENTS TO UBER

My car is too old for Lyft but it’s in a good condition. Will Lyft accept it?

Lyft makes no exception on model year requirements. Even though your car is in good state, it won’t be accepted by Lyft.

How much body damage can my car have?

It depends upon the inspection officer to determine whether the car damage is severe or not. According to them, fist-sized dings or dents are acceptable but anything severe than that is not.

Do I need any special permits to drive for Lyft?

In some cities, you have to exert special permit to drive for Lyft. Lyft will give you instructions on how to obtain any necessary permits.

My car qualifies now, but can it become too old later on?

Lyft typically updates their model year requirement yearly and disqualifies cars that become too old. For example, if the model year requirement in your city is 2007 or newer this year, next year it might become 2008. In that scenario, a model year 2007 vehicle would become too old for the Lyft platform and no longer qualify. Lyft will typically warn you a few months in advance that your car is aging off of the platform.

What about the other standards? Is there flexibility?

Standards like tires, windows, lights, AC and heat are mandatory. You might be able to slip by with broken AC or a non functioning feature or two if the inspector doesn’t look closely, but in the long run your passengers will notice and you’ll get low ratings. It’s better to fix your car now then to get hired only to get fired after your passengers complain about your car.

We ensure to give you all the details regarding insurances and ways to secure a more premium and healthy lifestyle through different career options with their objectives and functions.

              WHAT IS A TLC
              NYC VEHICLE ?

The NYC Taxi and limousine commission (TLC) was created in 1971. TLC licenses and regulates:

              • NYC’s medallion taxicabs,
              • Commuter vans,
              • For-hire vehicles such as luxury limousines, community-based liveries, black cars and
              • para-transit vehicles.

TLC is highly effective. In US, it licenses and regulates over 50,000 vehicles and 100,000 drivers (approx).

              Requirements:

              • COMMUTER VAN: It’s conditions are work within specific geographic areas.
              • BLACK CAR: It’s requirements are pre-arranged passenger transportation that are mostly non-cash and it carries strict vehicle standards.
              • YELLOW TAXI: The requirements include exclusive street hail rights in NYC.
              • LIVERY: The requirements of Livery are same of the Black car.
              • PARA-TRANSIT: The requirements are pre-arranged service for non-emergency medical transportation.
              • LUXURY LIMO: It’s necessities are flat rate pre-arranged transportation along with strict vehicle standards.
              • GREEN TAXI: It’s actually a subclass of Livery with special permit. Green taxi hail rights in outer boros and upper Manhattan.

WHAT IS COVERED IN TLC NYC INSURANCE AND WHAT ISN’T?

TLC insurance policy incorporates liability policy. This policy will cover you only if you’re insured against claims and lawsuits filed by others in case of body injury and property damage. But, only up to the limits on your policy. There’s also coverage for:

              • medical expenses,
              • other related expenses for drivers, passengers or pedestrians under PIP coverage,
              • lost earnings.

However, there’s no collision coverage. This signifies that if you meet an accident and need to repair your vehicle, you’re going to have to pay from your pocket. Thereby, it’s advisable to purchase a collision policy to cover these types of claims. For example: If you get into an accident and you’re not at fault, you can file claim against the third party for property damage.

              • $100,000 per person,
              • $200,000 personal injury protection,
              • $300,000 per accident,
              • $10,000 in property damage.

              REGISTERING A TLC NYC VEHICLE

              Liability policy:

The combination to all the coverages that are mentioned below are referred to as a liability policy. Its minimum requirements are:

              • PERSONAL INJURY PROTECTION (PIP): As mentioned previously, it provides coverage on a standard auto liability policy which covers medical expenses, lost earnings and other related expenses for drivers, passengers and pedestrians. Therefore, it’s also referred to as «No Fault».

Howbeit, this coverage doesn’t apply to TLC vehicles’ drivers. Drivers who drive under the category of Black Car Bases such as Uber, Lyft, etc are covered under the Black Car Fund. Drivers who drive for Car Service/Livery Base (most Green Taxis) are regarded by Independent Livery Driver Benefit Fund (ILDBF).

These funds provide similar coverage as PIP. Also, review your base’s membership, coverage, exclusions and terms for your own betterment. If you want driver coverage too, then you can also consider applying for workers compensation insurance.

              • LIABILITY COVERAGE: It covers your legal liability to others for property damage or bodily injury in the case of a loss.
              • UNINSURED MOTORIST COVERAGE: It protects you when there’s an accident involving an uninsured vehicle. The minimum limits of coverage in NY are $25,000/$50,000 i.e. the insurance carrier will pay a maximum of $25,000 for any one person or a maximum of $50,000 for two or more people.

              Age restriction:

Your insurance companies require drivers to be at least 18 years old.

              Steps to follow:

              • Purchase/lease an approved vehicle: It’s the first step. However, in order to complete the first step, you’ll need a copy of your bill of sale or lease agreement for insurance purposes.

For every license classes of TLC such as black car, livery or taxi, there’re different requirements. Black Car base category include app companies like Lyft, Gett and Uber. If you want to drive for one of these companies, then you’ve to purchase a vehicle of 7 model years or newer.

A note to be remembered: If you buy a brand new vehicle that has less than 500 miles on the odometer, you don’t have to go to TLC inspection but for visual inspection.

              • Select a TLC base to be associated with: You’ve to tie up your vehicle with a TLC approved dispatch base. Uber, Lyft and Gett have their own TLC registered black car bases. Contact your chosen base to get the base letter which means that you want to affiliate with your chosen base.
              • Purchase TLC minimum required insurance: If your vehicle supports less than 8 people then, you’ll need to purchase commercial liability insurance. It’s minimum limits are $100,000 per person, $200,000 in no-fault coverage, $300,000 per accident in bodily injury liability and $10,000 in property damage liability. These are minimum levels of insurance therefore, it’s better to purchase higher coverage.

A note: TLC doesn’t require collision coverage but it doesn’t mean that there’s no need to purchase it. Once your policy is issued, you’ll receive an FH1 (for-hire vehicle certificate). It’s a certificate of insurance that names the TLC as a certificate holder and has a declarations page showing your coverage.

              • Prepare your TLC vehicle license application: After preparing your documents, you’ve to submit the application to the TLC.

There’re two ways of handling the situation. First, you can file the application in person or online without having to visit the TLC office. Just select «Apply for a new license and select vehicle» and then, follow the instructions to upload the required documents. Second, after your application is processed, you’ll be provided a plate letter which allows you to register your car at the DMV.

              • Get your TLC plates and schedule an inspection: You can now take your plate letter given by TLC along with your insurance documents and bring it to the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) location. Register your vehicle and then, get TLC plates. Put your plates on your vehicle and drive! However, if you purchase a used vehicle with more than 500 miles on the odometer, you’ll need to arrange an inspection. For that, contact your base that you’re allied with to schedule an appointment.

                Becoming TLC driver
                in New York City

As you know, NYC is widely famous for its big yellow taxi cabs. In late years, however, these ridesharing services such as Uber and Lyft have taken a significant place and have slowly become a norm in the city that never sleeps. Also, in comparison to the regular yellow taxi cab, these services are more convenient and cheaper. Furthermore, these services are not only advantageous for passengers but there are also certain number of benefits of becoming a TLC driver such as you can own your own vehicle and make your own schedule, you can also receive surge/prime time bonuses and get paid weekly.
In addition to it, NYC has taken measures to ensure that there’re only qualified drivers and there’s full security of the passengers during their transport. As righteously said, all ridesharing drivers therefore, are required to obtain a Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) license in NYC.

                DETERMINING IF BECOMING TLC
                DRIVER IS RIGHT FOR YOU

                Advantages:

There are many advantages of becoming a TLC driver. These are:

                • Meeting new people everyday and getting a chance to know them.
                • No paperwork or spending/wasting your time with your annoying co-workers or micro-management.
                • The job doesn’t lead to any physical straining.

Benefits of becoming an Uber driver:

With a continuous battle with the other companies, Uber thrives for the attention of both the riders and drivers. Fortunately, this competition means that the rideshare service offers benefits to earn and maintain their drivers’ loyalty. Some of these Uber offers include:

                • Rate transparency: Being honest about the base rates for each area. It allows drivers to see the estimated fare for each trip before accepting the ride, which in turn helps them to properly plan their time and money budget.
                • Scheduling freedom: Drivers are able to set their own hours wherein they can work full-time or use the service to compliment their earnings from another job. It provides them the freedom to set and reach their financial goals without being held back.
                • 24/7 support: Providing total support to the drivers through the online help center or giving ability to access a support representative directly through the app at any time, ensures security to the drivers.
                • Driver rewards: It includes discounts on vehicle maintenance and cell phone service as well as financial management tools and health insurance.

                Dis-advantages:

With every pros, there are cons as well. Freedom of being able to do however you want, can lead to bad work routines such as:

                • You may find it easier to stay in bed during surge times and skip-out on high-profit time periods despite needing the money to pay the bills.
                • Another most important issue to take in view is the customer satisfaction. Being patient is the most ruling aspect of this profession therefore, if you lack patience to deal with unruly customers then, this might not be the best profession for you.
                • The need to socialize and remain confident among strangers also comes in handy.

                TLC driver’s restrictions:

Unlike many ridesharing companies, Uber offers the largest coverage area. It spans in more than 600 cities around the world. The company has set standards which are required by the drivers to obey. In addition to it, local municipalities can also put restrictions on the service which makes hiring process more strenuous in those areas.

                TLC driver’s alternatives:

Uber and Lyft are the most common rideshare companies in the industry. Though their eligibility requirements are similar, howbeit, if you don’t qualify for one, you can still be approved by another. Nevertheless, delivery services like Uber Eats and Postmates, have fewer restrictions in place. That is, you can also become a delivery driver for Doordash/Instacart.

                SALARY EXPECTATIONS

There are multiple factors that play into your prospective earnings as a TLC driver:

                Base rates:

Uber determines the earnings of their drivers. The company sets base rates for every location that are based on the type of Uber product you’re offering. For every ride, you’ll earn the base fare for every booking plus a certain amount per minute and mile of the journey.

                Surge pricing:

During extremely fussy periods, Uber offers you increased earning power with surge pricing. In other words, surge fares are enforced when ride requests in an area exceed that of the available drivers. In such cases, Uber temporarily increases your rates and thus, offers you the chance to multiply your earnings.

                Weekly bonuses and promotions:

Uber also offers weekly bonuses and promotions. These bonuses can add several hundred dollars to a your paycheck.

                Demand of riders:

Also, you’ve to consider the average demand for riders. Big and developing cities offer a near constant need for TLC driver but the demand in the smaller locations fluctuate on the basis of the time of day, the day of the week, and the local events that are happening. Therefore, it’s more like a challenge for rideshare drivers to estimate their likely earning.

                ELIGIBILITY

Before you set your mind on the prospect of becoming a TLC driver, it’s important that you verify if you can meet the company’s minimum standards.

Uber will verify these requirements during the application process by running a complete background check. This task involves reviewing both your driving record and criminal history. To verify the safety and quality of your vehicle, they also require a full inspection before you begin working with their service. The basic Uber driver requirements comprises:

You should be at least 21 years of age or else your application will get rejected.

                Experience:

At least one year of driving experience is necessary for all the drivers. Howbeit, drivers under 23 need to have had their driver’s license for at least three years.

                Vehicle’s age:

Your vehicle shouldn’t be more than 15 years old.

UberPOOL is a bit less restrictive in regards to how rideshare requests are handled. Passengers can choose to use UberPOOL when they don’t mind sharing their ride with additional passengers they don’t know. It’s a great way to earn more profits in a short amount time.

                UberXL:

UberBLACK vehicles are commonly reserved for black tie affairs too therefore, only luxury vehicles made after 2013 that have the right interior and exterior are allowed.

                UberLUX:

After you’re selected, you’ve to schedule an inspection for your car/SUV. Uber has been partners with auto shops in most of the areas they service. Furthermore, you can also get an inspection for free at an Uber Green-light Hub.

                FILLING OUT THE APPLICATION

In order to fill out an application, you’ll need your license, registration, and insurance documentation. Also, new drivers can maximize their signup bonus with Uber driver invite codes.

After all the requirements are satisfied, you can proceed with the registration process. Howbeit, if you don’t meet them then, you’ll need to explore other options like buying or leasing another vehicle.

                Enter your social security number:

Enter your social security number. You don’t have to worry about anything because the number remains private. Withal, there’re a few things to keep in mind after applying. They are:

                • The approval process may take some time. Therefore, be patient and if there is anything that the support representatives might need then, work efficiently to get it for them.
                • In case you’re not approved, find out the cause. If the reason/cause can be changed or controlled, then fix it.

RATINGS OF COMMERCIAL POLICIES, SELECTION OF DEDUCTIBLES AND DEVELOPMENT OF PREMIUMS

                  Ratings:

The policy premium is developed through the way a policy is rated. Rating factors are based on the line of insurance you’re purchasing.

If you’re purchasing commercial property insurance, the building rating formula is based on factors like:

                  • square footage,
                  • type of construction,
                  • sprinklered or non-sprinklered,
                  • the fire protection classification.

If you’re purchasing general liability insurance, the rating formula can be based on the factors such as:

                  • square footage,
                  • payroll,
                  • gross sales depending on the general liability classification codes used.

                  These are called rating exposures.

                  Selection:

Once the rating exposures are identified and the deductibles selected, the premium is calculated by a simple formula: rate x exposure = premium.

                  Development:

The deductible amount you choose will be calculated in the rate. The higher the deductible, the lower the rate. By utilizing higher deductibles, your premium’s cost can be brought down. However, it’s better to not choose overly large deductibles because it can jeopardize your company’s financial future.

                  COMMERCIAL CLAIMS

Your duties and responsibilities in a claim can become multiple depending on the type of loss your business endures. Therefore, it’s important to remember that your broker-agent should assist you throughout the claims process.

Whether you contact your broker-agent/insurance company directly when filing a claim, you’re required under the insurance contract to report all claims in a timely manner. This allows the insurance company to process the claim and conduct their investigation as quickly as possible.

Commercial claims can be very complex, therefore, it’s important for the company to assess the claim quickly in order to eliminate any situation that could increase loss. This is especially crucial in liability claims, as there can be high dollar amounts at stake.

When claims aren’t controlled early, litigation from third parties can arise. Litigation can be expensive and often ends in a judgement much higher than if an experienced claim representative had handled the claim from the beginning.

You as business owners should be aware that claims loss experience is reflected in the rating formula and thus, directly affects premium costs. By following the duties outlined in your contract regarding claims, you’re a partner with your insurance company in helping to keep claims costs to a minimum, which in turn helps keep your premium costs down.

The better your claims experience, the greater modification allowed to lower your premium.

                  • DEDUCTIBLE:

The deductible on a commercial policy is the part of the loss that you’ve to pay up-front before your insurance company pays a claim. Depending upon the amount of the deductible stated in your policy, the insurance company will pay up to the limits of the policy when a claim is covered after you’ve provided the deductible payment. The higher the absolute dollar amount (deductible)will be, the lower would be your premium.

                  • LOSS CONTROL:

Through loss prevention and control you can easily decrease the frequency and potential severity of the claims. Your broker-agent will offer suggestions to you on how to best control the loss exposures that are common to your business depending upon your type of business exposure.

He along with your account underwriter claims representative and loss control representative will also create an entire program of loss prevention that includes specific modifications and procedures to follow that can help create a safer workplace. These programs can even include an employee safety program that incorporates awards and suggestions.

Through the implementation of loss control methods, there is protection of the public and workers, and your loss experience improves when the premium costs go down.

                  TROUBLE LOCATING INSURANCE FOR BUSINESS

Your business can easily obtain insurance from the standard insurance market with the assistance of a qualified broker-agent.

However, if your business has experienced significant losses, it can be considered to be engaged in high-risk operations. One situation could be that you’ve recently started your business therefore, you’re facing difficulties in locating insurance in the standard commercial insurance market. Though in this case, your broker-agent can explain the options you may have in seeking and securing commercial insurance elsewhere.

                  • SURPLUS LINE INSURANCE:

You can also obtain insurance from the surplus line market when your three applications have been turned down from a licensed commercial insurance carrier. Surplus Line insurance companies aren’t licensed by the New York department of insurance. However, they do have to go through an approval process that includes providing evidence of minimum capital and surplus requirements.

Nevertheless, when these requirements are up to the satisfaction of New York department of insurance, it may approve the company to conduct business in New York and subsequently add them to the List of Eligible Surplus Line Insurers (commonly referred to as the LESLI list).

These companies are accessed through a specially licensed broker. The broker must have a surplus line license issued by the New York department of insurance in order to sell surplus line insurance. Before purchasing insurance from a surplus line insurance company, your broker must provide you with a disclosure notice under CIC Section 1764.1 that the insurance you are buying is being issued from a surplus line.

Although surplus line insurers must follow the Fair Claims Settlement Practices Regulations, the New York department of insurance has limited jurisdiction over the operation of surplus line insurers. If the company goes bankrupt, your only course of action will be through the courts.

The New York Insurance Guarantee Association which protects claims with admitted insurers, doesn’t apply to surplus line insurers. A surplus line broker should be able to supply information on the financial solvency of any surplus line company that it represents. After checking the financial solvency of the surplus line company, you may also wish to verify that the surplus line company is approved by the New York department of insurance and currently on the LESLI list.

                  • NEW YORK FAIR PLAN:

The New York FAIR Plan has been in operation since 1968 to provide basic property insurance to property owners who are unable to obtain insurance in the standard market.

It’s an association of all property insurers licensed in the state who participate according to the percentage of property insurance they write in New York. It was established to assure stability and accessibility of property owners to property insurance.

The majority of New York FAIR Plan business is in designated urban, inner city, and areas subject to destructive wildfires. While it primarily writes policies for homeowners, they do write a small percentage of policies for commercial property owners.

SPECIFIC RULES ON COMMERCIAL INSURANCE CANCELLATION AND NON-RENEWAL

Commercial insurance companies must follow the rules set out in the insurance code regarding commercial insurance cancellation and non-renewal. There are separate insurance code sections covering cancellation and non-renewal for workers compensation, auto, ocean marine, surplus line, reinsurance policies, and other commercial insurance lines. Therefore, its better to contact the New York department of insurance for a complete explanation if you run into any problems with cancellation or non-renewal notices.

                    Auto insurance guide
                    for teen drivers
                    in New York

The unpredictability of running into dangers by a teen driver is considerably high when compared to an experienced and meticulous driver. Furthermore, the gravity of the situation increases when the parents and the teen drivers are unaware of those risks and its causes. At that point of time, the issue of high auto insurance premiums become least of the concerns of the parents when their children are involved in a serious accident.
According to the reports of CDC (Center for Disease Control), teen drivers are three times more likely to be involved in an accident than the drivers attaining an age of twenty or above. Therefore, the scale of auto insurance premiums for teenagers have gone notably high. Fortunately, the CDC and other agencies like US have developed productive and affordable strategies to keep the teens safe on the road.

                    PREPARING TEENS
                    FOR DRIVING

                    Driver’s education courses and programs:

The driving habits have already been embodied in the minds of adult drivers. Therefore, the parents might not be potent enough in teaching the driving skills to their children as compared to the professional driving instructor.

                    Tip for parents:

The department of motor vehicles might offer educational courses and materials to help. Also, private lessons are easily available across the country. It’s wise to learn from a well-established driving instructor because anonymous instructors might impart only few long-lasting skills.

Learner’s permit and driving with parental supervision:

Many new drivers are required to obtain a learner’s permit before they can apply for their license as per the guidelines laid by most of the states. Also, majority of the states demand a certain number of parent-supervised driving hours logged and recorded by the parent.

                    Tip for parents:

Be calm and composed while teaching driving skills to maintain a good environment. Likewise, it’s imperative to discuss the errors and successes for better driving.

Websites, mobile apps and car accessories for safe driving:

There are some apps which monitor the safe driving by the teens. However, these apps operate on a simple premise: lock down the basic functions of the phone such as browsing, calling and texting until the car is at a standstill. Additionally, there are websites which offer entertaining yet fruitful videos and games to enrapture the attention of the teens and also to educate them about safe driving.

                    Tip for parents:

Be sure to ask your insurer about GPS units, dashboard cameras and other gadgets that can track your teen’s driving. These devises are easily available online which not only inform the parents through text or email, when the teen driver strays a certain distance from home but also, notifies about the excess speed limit or erratic driving or a happening of an accident.

                    Safe driving pledges and contracts:

Create a safe driving contract with your teen driver as it ensures their acknowledgment towards road safety. Setting down specific guidelines and agreements will keep them aware of right and wrong and will further set specific consequences in case of contract-breach. In order to view a sample contract, contact US

                    RULES OF THE ROAD

It’s important for teen drivers to be acquainted to both the rules and regulations around operating a motor vehicle as well as the unwritten rules of the road for safe driving habits.
                    • New driver laws:

                    • Curfews: Most of the states impose curfews on teen drivers with an age 18 or below, at weeknights/weekends.
                    • Seat-belts: Seat-belts are necessary while driving and therefore, it’s required by the drivers and passengers to wear them every time. To ensure more safety and awareness, certain states issue tickets to both unbuckled passenger and driver. Therefore, in order to avoid a hike in auto insurance premiums after such a violation, make sure your teen and his friends are buckled up.

What to do if a police officer pulls over your teen driver:

Rehearse the procedure in advance: Practice these following steps with your teen to prepare them for when getting stopped by an officer:
                    • Keep all current registration and insurance cards in an easy to find place: A brightly colored envelope or pouch in the glove box.
                    • Keep hands on the wheel and stay clam: In a situation where your teen gets pulled over, certain actions can land your teen into the suspect list of the police such as moving around or shuffling in his seat or fidgeting inside the car.
The officers are trained to suspect the worse such as weapons or drugs or illegal materials inside the car. To avoid such circumstances, make sure your teen calmly waits for the officer to approach the car. When the officer asks for license, auto insurance and registration, tell him before doing anything that you’re going to open the glove-box for the documents.
                    • Be polite and give brief answers when questioned: Most teens don’t acknowledge their mistakes easily. Also, arguing with a police officer over an “unfair” ticket is not the best way to get off with a verbal warning.
                    • Apologize and say «please»and «thank-you»: In most cases, an officer has the discretion to give a driver a ticket, written warning or verbal warning. A simple apology and common courtesies can go a long way towards keeping your teen driver’s record clean.
                    • What to do in case of an accident:

                    • Pull off the roadway and turn on hazard lights: Park at a safe spot on the side of the road or in a parking lot before exiting the car. Rather than stopping your car in the middle of the road or intersection.
                    • Call 911: Call 911 or the local police department even in the cases of minor accident. A police report is highly invaluable to document the case later on.
                    • Exchange every information: All the information should be exchanged such as the name, address, phone number, driver’s license number, license plate, vehicle year/make/model for all drivers involved in the accident and any witnesses/passengers. For the other driver, get their insurance company, policy number and claims phone number which can be found on their auto insurance card.
                    • Don’t admit of being guilty: Always leave it up to the police, witnesses and insurers to say who had the right of way and who was at fault.
                    • Take pictures of everything at the scene of the accident: A wide angle shot showing the whole scene which involves vehicles, license plates, the whole road or intersection as well as close-ups of the damage to vehicles.
                    • Get statements from witnesses: Do make sure to write down, to record on video or audio and to keep track of the witnesses’ names and phone numbers. They can act as a piece of evidence in cases of a legal dispute.
                    • After everything has settled, decide whether to file a claim and call your insurer: Check if you can work with the other involved drivers to handle it off auto insurance to keep your teen driver’s rates low. Also, report all damage, repairs and expenses in case you need to open up a claim should the cost of repairs skyrocket.
                    • Underage drinking and driving:

                    • A serious risk: According to the reports of CDC which states — «Teens are less likely than adults to underestimate dangerous situations or not be able to recognize hazardous situations».
                    • Guilt by association: In most states, there are cases where a teen driver is transporting an underage passenger who has been drinking. Then, both the passenger and driver are fined for underage drinking even if the driver is completely sober.
                    • Have a serious discussion with your teen: Building a healthy and supportive relation with your children will place your trust in them. In situations especially where they can call you to get a ride if their friends have been drinking. Make sure your teen never gets on a ride with an intoxicated friend or instead drive while drunk.

                    GETTING STARTED: AN EASY PRIMER

                    Know your timing:

Your existing auto insurance company will contact you through the information you have registered when you first signed up your policy. In any case, if they don’t contact, it’s your duty to alert your carrier once your teen attains a learner’s permit to talk through the options and to give yourself time to compare every auto insurance company. In general, permitted drivers are automatically covered as a part of the parent/guardian’s policy with no action needed on your part, but when they do have a true driver’s license, even provisional, they will need to be on your policy or get their own.
                    • Get ready to compare quotes:

Insurance companies all across the U.S. except Hawaii, use age and experience as a rating factor. In that way, adding a teen raises the cost anywhere from 100% to more than 200%. For more information, contact US

                    Understand available discounts:

When you add a teenager to your auto insurance policy or they get their own, auto insurance companies don’t actively communicate what discounts are available to you. Talk to US to know how to use the discount guide.

ADDING A TEENAGER TO YOUR AUTO INSURANCE POLICY

Including a teen to your policy is the best yet cheapest way to get your teen insured. It’s true that it’s costly, but you can certainly save if you choose the best auto insurance companies for teens. Here are certain questions answered just for you:

How much will adding a teen to my auto insurance cost me?

The circumstance would be different every time, but to get a solid number let’s compare rates in 10 zip codes in each state. The family profile owned a 2014 Honda Accord driven by a 40-year old man buying full coverage. Then add a 16-year old teen to the policy. Here’s what happened:
                    • The average household’s car insurance bill rose 152%.
                    • A teenage boy was more expensive. The average bill rose 176%, compared with 129% for teenage girls.
                    • New York rates rose the most, more than 200%.
The reason behind the hikes: Teens crash at a much higher rate than older drivers — the risk is four times as much. According to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the worst age for accidents is 16. They have a crash rate twice as high as drivers that are older. Costs also vary widely by insurance company, which is why it’s better to shop for auto-insurance.

How to add a teen to your policy?

If you’re choosing a new auto insurance company after shopping, it would be best if you had already added the teen to the policy when first signing up. However, if you hadn’t or/and want to add a teen to your current or new policy, then follow the required procedure:
                    1. Call your auto-insurance company if they haven’t contacted you.
                    2. Know and talk about every possible changes to your policy in detail that includes minimum and maximum coverage and also, insist on hearing the ins and outs of each and every discount as these can add up to considerable savings. If you are also adding an additional car, be sure to ask about a multi-car discount.
                    3. Make sure to ask information about your teen’s driver’s license and on new vehicles.
                    4. Decide carefully and calmly. Do make sure that your teen isn’t driving on a full license without being formally added to your policy or their own.

If my teen gets a ticket, will it raise my rates?

The answer is positive. Once together on the same policy, all driving records, including your teen’s, affect premiums, for better or worse. You share in the discounts, and you shall also share in the risk.

                    TEEN BUYING THEIR OWN POLICY

Companies can sell directly to teens, but according to state laws, when it comes to a teen’s ability to sign for insurance, a parent may have to co-sign and it’s hardly cheaper. In fact, your teen will likely have a higher premium compared to adding a teen to a parent or guardian policy. Howbeit, there are cases where it might make sense for a teen to have their own policy. Progressive cites two:
                    • You have a luxury sports car. On a single plan, all drivers, including the teen, are insured against all cars.
                    • The teen is eager to be financially independent.
Auto insurance is different for a first-time auto insurance buyer, but it’s a great time to start a relationship with an insurance provider. For more information, talk to or request a quote here

                    AUTO INSURANCE FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS

The procedure could be the same for the college students as it’s for the teens. However, there’s a possibility to save. If the student plans to leave their car at home and the college is more than 100 miles away, they could qualify for a «resident student» discount or a student «away» discount. These discounts can reach as high as 30%. Also, doing well in school could lead to a good student discount. Both discounts will require you to contact your insurance provider so they can begin to apply the discounts.

                    LEARNER’S PERMIT INSURANCE

You can get insurance with a permit, but most auto insurance companies include the permitted teen on the parents’ policy without any action. However, the teen should be added to the parents’ policy or get their own policy when they receive their driver’s license. Talk in the chat for more information.

                    INSURING MY TEEN DRIVER: FAQs

If you’re a new teen driver, or the parent of a new teen driver, the process of obtaining the right auto insurance for teens can be a work of dilemma. This page will thus, thoroughly guide you through some of the most commonly asked questions about auto insurance for teens.

Will a teen driver pay more for auto insurance than an adult?

According to statistics of the Center For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), teen drivers of 16-19 years of age are three times more likely to crash than older drivers. They exhibit risky behavior which increases their odds of meeting an accident. But as they grow in age, the rates begin to level out because the accident risk decreases.

When does a teen need auto insurance coverage?

You should ask this question to your insurance agent when your teen starts learning to drive. The laws are different from state to state. The majority of car insurance companies require that anyone with a driver’s license in your household be insured. Teens with learner’s permits often don’t need to have their own insurance; however, your state’s laws may differ.

Will my premium increase because I added a teen driver?

Your rates will definitely increase by adding a teen driver, however, in most cases, auto insurance rates are typically cheap for teens when they are added to an existing auto insurance policy rather than when they purchase their own policy.

What can teens do to reduce their rates?

The key factor in calculating insurance rates is responsibility. Teens can improve their chances of finding auto insurance rates through one of these mediums:
                    1. Maintain good grades: Good student discounts are often given to students who maintain at least a B average.
                    2. Clean driving record: Maintaining a clean driving record free of accidents and violations. Parents can also promote safe driving by establishing some ground rules such as for cell phones, passengers and car use.
                    3. Driver’s education course: Complete an approved driver’s education course.
When getting auto insurance for teens, you can also get quotes from different insurance providers, as rates will vary from company to company. Or you can easily compare auto insurance rates online.

Does my teen need the same auto insurance coverage I do?

Teens are legally required to carry the minimum level of insurance required by your state. Other types such as comprehensive or collision insurance are optional, but may be required to get a car loan.

If my teen goes away to school, do I still list them on my policy?

Policy details and requirements will vary among auto insurance companies and states. If your teen comes home for the summer, you must list them on your policy. Also, if your child is heading to a school that is a certain number of miles away from home, they may qualify for a resident student discount, which can significantly lessen your rates. Even if your child comes home for short periods of time or vacations, it may not be necessary to list them on your policy. This will depend on your carrier and your state’s laws.

Is my teen eligible for a student discount?

Many auto insurance companies offer good student discounts to reward teens that do well in school. Statistically, good grades equal responsible driving and lower risk. The exact amount of the discount depends on the insurance provider. In order to qualify for a discount, must remember that the teen:
                    • Is under 25 years old.
                    • Is enrolled in school full-time.
                    • Has a grade point average of at least 3.0.
                    • Does driving a safer vehicle help teens to acquire a more affordable auto insurance?

Age qualifies the type of car you must drive. However you must avoid sports car designed for speed as well as trucks and SUVs. To achieve best auto insurance rates, you must follow:
                    1. Enhanced safety measures.
                    2. Crash protection.
                    3. Larger body.

Is it better to add a teen to my policy or get them a new policy?

The auto insurance is cheaper for teens when they’re added to their parents’ policies. However, it’s smart to get quotes for both, as many factors can come into play. For example, if your teen has a very low-value vehicle, it might be cheaper for him to get his own policy and skip certain optional coverage such as collision and comprehensive.
                    • Do I have other options if adding my teen to my policy is too expensive?

All drivers need auto insurance because of the law. Your only other option is to put the teen on a separate policy but it would be more expensive. It’s because certain discounts that apply on your policy may not apply to his such as multi-car, occupational discounts, etc.
